Mat 12:32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come. Mat 12:33 Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and his fruit corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit. Mat 12:37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned. (KJV) What is blasphemy against the Holy Ghost? If The Holy Ghost is the Spirit that ministers Jesus' works then that is problem enough: But there is a more serious rejection going on that is interwoven with Christ's ministry. The laws and ministry of God is self-consistent. It is truly possible to live a righteous life without sin: In so much that a sinless man as is Christ is a real possibility. If that Holy "Spirit" were not plausible, then Gods laws are inconsistent and a righteous life is impossible. It would then follow that God's kingdom is divided, and this is strictly not the case. To reject God's laws as "pish" or to teach that laws penned by God are to be chosen at will or "to be taken or left" is blasphemy of the Holy Ghost: It is blasphemy of the ministry of God from start to finish, and it as sin is unable to be forgiven as forgiveness requires repentance to the absolute standard of the law - albeit under grace so that the believer may approach the standard of the "Holy Ghost" in eternal life. Jesus states they should make the tree wholly good or wholly corrupt. The tree is the house of Israel. There is no dancing on the line that Jesus Has drawn in the sand here. Jesus asserts that this line in the sand is the choice between an inconsistent God whose standards are ministered by the pharisees in their hypocrisy, or of a real God whose judgement is just and is being testified to by Jesus Christ. There is nothing concealed in the heart of man that is not open to God. The unbelief of the pharisees is not concealed from God: Jesus takes a stand and flatly exposes this hypocrisy, for they can not rejoice at the healing of the man exorcised, but voice only complaint derived from their hearts. There is no mingling of good fruit from a good tree and corrupt fruit from a corrupt tree - it is self evident that the lack of what should be rejoicing from their hearts is evidence they are not of a "good tree" and their complaint is of those "evil things", rejection, hypocrisy and complaint. Every murmur against the law of God is sin, Just as every murmur against the fulfilment of the Holy Ghost's ministry by Christ is a murmur of sin and against the fulfilment of the law also. It is blasphemy of the whole work of redemption. Jesus' teaching is that the Israel that is of the pharisees' and is under the condemnation of the law is wholly corrupt, and the only remnant of Israel gathered to Christ and justified before God will be only wholly good - that in Christ saved Israel is under a much more selective set of criteria that genetic stock. Mat 12:41 The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here. (KJV) Jesus is asked to show some proof that He is the Christ as is in view with the multitude - the assertion that Israel is corrupt and Jesus gathers the true remnant of Israel to God (from corrupt "physical" Israel that is under condemnation of the law) and that Jesus is doing the work of God's salvation is too much for the scribes and pharisees - they are simply attempting to stir up the crowd against Christ, having plotted to find a way to destroy Him. Jesus easily sees though this and states they will only be given the sign of Jonah, the resurrection of Jesus Himself. Of course, Jesus knows that no miracle will be enough for the pharisees at this point. He refers them to the greatest sign He will perform - His resurrection. For if a man will not believe on that, then belief on a lesser miracle is not just unlikely but will not be sufficient to indicate the completion of the ministry of the Holy Ghost. The real faith on the possibility of Jesus' innocence before God and His freedom from condemnation of the law as evidenced by His resurrection, (after being accepted by God as after approval on "every idle word" that Jesus taught) as gospel truth, having mediated grace to us blameless is a necessary belief for salvation. If Jesus is not innocent and raised, we have no faith at all. So, Jesus argues the line in the sand. Will Israel repent and be gathered to God? All of Nineveh repented at the preaching of Jonah, they will judge Israel because Israel did not fully repent at Christ's urging. Will all Israel follow after the wisdom of Christ with the Father's words? The queen of Sheba will judge that generation, for she travelled a great distance to marvel at the words of Solomon, and a greater wisdom is present in Christ. Jesus indicates that He is about to "send forth judgement unto victory." Not just referring to the final translation of Israel to the elect (and they only) at the completion of the cross, but also by simply showing that the truth is readily arrived at, that Jesus' wisdom concludes this matter fully - He justifies that the accusation of casting out demons by beelzebub is baseless and is an accusation of a corrupt Israel that is not Israel before God - that Israel is gathered in Christ only, and in Him the gentiles may trust. Jesus logically infers the result of the cross - the translation of Israel to the elect, as opposed to the physical lineage of Abraham.
